Sutrio hosts traditional haymaking festival “Fasjn la mede” on July 19
The mountain village of Sutrio in Friuli‑Carnia, Italy, will hold the annual “Fasjn la mede” haymaking festival on Sunday, 19 July. The event takes place on the pastures of Monte Zoncolan, a famed Giro d’Italia climb, and showcases the historic practice of cutting grass, gathering it into tall haystacks and sharing a rustic picnic.
Women dressed in traditional costume lead the hay‑making demonstrations, joined by men and children. Visitors can enjoy a local food market, regional dishes inspired by chef Gianni Cosetti, a herb exhibition, and guided walks to identify wild herbs. Accommodation is available in the village’s “Albergo diffuso,” a network of renovated historic homes.
The festival aims to preserve mountain heritage, involve tourists and younger generations, and promote the area’s culinary and natural attractions.
