Sutrio to host ForMandi mountain cheese festival
Sutrio, a village in the Carnia region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, will host ForMandi on Sunday, October 18. The event is dedicated to mountain cheese and traditional Friulian flavors, featuring a tasting route through the town center.
The festival will showcase traditional dishes made with mountain cheese alongside local craft beers. A central hub at Ort dal sior Matie will host approximately twenty mountain farms (malghe) from Carnia and the surrounding region, offering cheese tastings and freshly prepared polenta. The event also includes artisanal markets, live music, and children's activities.
Beyond gastronomy, ForMandi serves as a platform to discuss the future of mountain pastures. Approximately fifty mountain farms remain active in the Carnia mountains, playing a vital role in biodiversity, pasture maintenance, and geological stability. The program includes a conference titled ‘La voce delle malghe’ (The Voice of the Mountain Farms), focusing on sustainability, tourism, and food safety regarding raw milk.
