Suunto announces Suunto Core 2 outdoor watch
Suunto has announced the release of the Suunto Core 2, an outdoor watch marking the first major update to the Core series in approximately 19 years. Scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, in Japan, the device is priced at 39,600 yen.
Designed as an “ABC watch” (altimeter, barometer, and compass), the Core 2 prioritizes reliability and long battery life over smartwatch features like GPS. It utilizes a user-replaceable CR3032 coin battery, which can power the watch for up to 15 months in basic timekeeping mode.
The watch features a 1.3-inch LED display with Corning Gorilla Glass, offering 40% higher brightness than the original model. It includes a storm alert function that triggers upon rapid drops in barometric pressure. Durability has been significantly improved, with water resistance increased from 3ATM to 10ATM and MIL-STD-810H certification for resistance to extreme temperatures, humidity, salt spray, and dust.
Additional features include Bluetooth connectivity for data synchronization and software updates via the Suunto app, a pedometer, dual time, and moon phase display. The device is designed with enlarged physical buttons to ensure ease of use while wearing gloves.
