Suvarnabhumi Airport to expand automated passport gates and facilities
Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Thailand is expanding its technological infrastructure and passenger facilities to accommodate rising flight and passenger volumes. Airport Director Kittipong Kittikachorn announced plans to increase the number of Automated Border Control (ABC) gates to a total of 122, up from the current 106. These automated systems are designed to reduce waiting times for international arrivals and departures.
The expansion includes broader access for foreign travelers; arrival e-gates have recently opened to travelers from 33 nationalities. Beyond immigration technology, the airport is implementing several facility upgrades, including the installation of more than 200 electronic charging points, the renovation of information counters, and the modernization of 124 toilet areas, a project expected to conclude by 2028.
Additional planned amenities include new children’s areas, relaxation zones, co-working spaces, and a digital park. These improvements follow a period of growth, with the airport handling approximately 59.6 million passengers during the first eleven months of the fiscal year, representing a 2.43% increase year-on-year.
