Suvendu Adhikari challenges Mamata Banerjee over 2021 injury claims

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has challenged the claims made by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding a leg injury she sustained during the 2021 Assembly election campaign in Nandigram. Adhikari cited a radiodiagnosis report from the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, dated March 11, 2021, which allegedly showed no signs of a fracture.

In response, Banerjee’s counsel issued a legal notice to doctors at S. S. K. M. Medical College & Hospital and the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, questioning why her medical reports were made public without consent. Adhikari warned that continuing to pursue the matter could lead to further embarrassment, suggesting he could release additional X-ray and MRI reports.

The Trinamool Congress has questioned the authenticity of the report cited by Adhikari, suggesting the document may be unreliable under the current BJP-led state government. While party members accused Adhikari of personal targeting, some former party members have mocked Banerjee over the discrepancy. Adhikari has indicated that a separate investigation may be initiated following the results of upcoming by-elections.
