Suvendu Adhikari leads Gerua Samman Yatra in Kolkata

Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP leader and West Bengal Leader of Opposition, led the ‘Gerua Samman Yatra’ in Kolkata on Wednesday. The procession was organized to protest alleged insults to the saffron color and to uphold its cultural and spiritual dignity.

The 3-km march began at Golpark and moved through Dhakuria, ending at the 8B bus stand near Jadavpur University. The procession included a large number of supporters, monks, seers, and Naga sadhus, many of whom chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

During the event, Adhikari invoked the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, linking the saffron color to Bengal’s historical and nationalist identity. BJP leaders, including MLA Tapas Roy, emphasized the sanctity of the color in Indian heritage and its presence in the national flag. The march took place amid ongoing political tensions in the Jadavpur area involving student groups and the ABVP.
