Suvignano estate hosts eighth event to combat organized crime

The eighth edition of Suvignano Tenuta Aperta was held to promote legality and combat organized crime. The event, organized by the Tuscany Region and the municipalities of Monteroni d’Arbia and Murlo, brought together magistrates, investigators, journalists, and institutions to discuss the evolution of mafia groups and modern tools for countering them.

The 638-hectare Suvignano estate, located between Monteroni and Murlo, was previously linked to the Cosa Nostra crime syndicate. The land was confiscated and returned to the community through the Region, and since 2019, management has been handled by the Ente Terre Regionali Toscana. The estate now operates as both an agricultural and livestock business and serves as a center for promoting democratic legality.

Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani described the estate as an “open-air investment” that provides concrete resources to restore productivity to land seized from the mafia. He emphasized that the commitment to the territory goes beyond mere memory, manifesting through continuous agricultural investments and daily presence to ensure the land remains a stronghold against criminal influence.
