Suwałki begins urban redevelopment plan for city center

The city of Suwałki has signed a contract to develop a Masterplan for its city center as part of the ‘Śródmieście na nowo’ (Downtown Anew) project. This initiative is part of the city’s Revitalization Program running through 2030.

Key objectives of the plan include calming vehicular traffic, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists, developing public transit, and increasing greenery in public spaces. The contract, valued at 1,111,305 PLN gross, was awarded to the Warsaw-based firm Consultants United Spółka z o.o.

The project will involve a diagnostic and analytical phase, including traffic volume measurements, the creation of a multimodal traffic model forecasting through 2045, and detailed analyses of public transport, parking, and accessibility for people with special needs.

Separately, Suwałki recently celebrated its annual Suwałki Days, featuring a city parade and various cultural events. This included the unveiling of a steel bear installation on Arkadia Island, a private gift to the city from Maciej Frej in memory of former mayor Jan Kaszuba.
