Suwałki unveils mural dedicated to director Andrzej Wajda

A mural dedicated to the renowned Polish director Andrzej Wajda has been unveiled in Suwałki. Created by prominent Polish poster artist Andrzej Pągowski, the artwork is located on the wall of the First High School on Andrzej Wajda Street.

The unveiling took place during the 6th ‘Wajda na Nowo’ Film Festival, which celebrates the director’s work and the achievements of Polish cinematography. The festival concluded with a gala ceremony honoring Allan Starski, Janusz Gajos, and Wojciech Marczewski for their lifetime achievements in film.

Andrzej Wajda, an Oscar winner, was born in Suwałki. In recognition of his upcoming centenary, the Polish Senate has declared 2026 as the Year of Andrzej Wajda. Local officials noted that the mural serves as a reminder of the director’s artistic courage and significant cultural heritage.
