Suwalszczyzna Folk Ensemble celebrates 75th anniversary

The Suwalszczyzna Song and Dance Ensemble held a jubilee concert at the Suwałki Cultural Center to mark its 75th anniversary. The event included a film documenting the group's history and a formal ceremony featuring local officials, including Suwałki Mayor Czesław Renkiewicz.

During the ceremony, commemorative medals and thanks were presented to former choreographers, choir masters, bandleaders, and long-standing members. The jubilee concert showcased various regional dances and musical styles, including Suwałki, Kashubian, Kurpie, Hucul, Opoczno, Rzeszów, Lublin, Spisz, and Beskid traditions.

Founded in 1952 as a dance group for a women's choir, the ensemble has grown from 140 members in its early years to nearly 100 artists today. Under the current direction of Robert Śliżewski, the group has performed internationally in countries including France, Germany, Lithuania, and Turkey.
