Suwon and three neighboring cities petition for Shinbundang Line extension

Mayors from four cities, including Suwon, Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan, have jointly petitioned the South Korean government to include the Shinbundang Line extension in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.

Signed by Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je, Gunpo Mayor Han Dae-hee, and Ansan Vice Mayor Heo Nam-seok, the proposal seeks to extend the line 14.54km from Gwanggyo Station to Banwol Station in Ansan. The officials stated that the extension is essential for improving connectivity in the southwestern Gyeonggi region, promoting balanced regional development, and supporting high-tech industries.

The proposed route aligns with the national policy of “transportation first, residential occupancy later” and is expected to serve as a strategic asset for urban development and improving the quality of life for residents in the metropolitan area.
