Suwon City Council inspects school routes following student proposals

The Suwon City Council has initiated field inspections to address environmental and safety improvements for school commuting routes following suggestions from an elementary school student. On July 20, council members and municipal officials visited the area surrounding Songjeong Elementary School to evaluate issues such as waste accumulation and pedestrian conditions.

The initiative stems from a proposal made by student Lee So-yun during a recent ‘Open Governance, Dialogue with Citizens’ session. The student requested the removal of waste near old pine trees, the installation of historical information boards regarding King Jeongjo, and the addition of shade canopies at crosswalks.

In response, the council and relevant departments have agreed to take action. Plans include relocating historical signage to more visible locations and installing shade structures at designated crosswalks to improve the commuting environment for students.
