Suwon City youth rental housing sees record competition rate
Suwon City has reported a record-high competition rate for its Saebit Youth Zone rental housing program. A total of 2,010 applicants applied for 151 available units, resulting in an average competition ratio of 13.3 to 1.
The recruitment included 141 units in Ingye-dong (Phase 4), which saw a 13.2 to 1 ratio, and 10 units in Gwonseon-dong (Phase 1) to fill vacancies, which saw a 15.5 to 1 ratio. This surge in interest significantly exceeds previous recruitment cycles, which saw ratios ranging from 4 to 7 to 1.
Experts attribute the increased demand to two main factors: the strategic location of the housing near subway stations and a policy change that raised the maximum eligible age from 34 to 39, following recommendations from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The program, a collaboration between Suwon City and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), aims to alleviate housing cost burdens for young adults.
Priority is given to specific groups, including entrepreneurs, artists, youth preparing for independence, and victims of jeonse (deposit) fraud. Suwon City will verify the income and assets of applicants through November 19, with final winners to be announced on November 20.
