Suwon Court sentences youths for robbery and assault
The Suwon District Court has sentenced a group of individuals in their 10s and 20s to prison terms for a robbery and assault targeting a woman at an officetel in Paldal-gu, Suwon.
In March, the group posed as sex work clients to lure a 50-year-old Thai national to the location. Once there, they assaulted her and stole property valued at approximately 2 million won, including a mobile phone. The group, who had been living in motels after meeting at youth shelters, stated they committed the crime to secure living expenses.
Sentences included 3 years for one individual, 2 years and 6 months for another, and a combination of prison time for a juvenile offender. One accomplice received a 2-year and 6-month prison sentence suspended for 4 years. The court noted the premeditated nature of the crime but cited the return of the stolen phone and the involvement of a minor as mitigating factors.
