Suwon mart representative charged with building law violations

Police in Suwon are preparing to transfer the representative of a local grocery mart to prosecutors on charges of violating the Building Act. The investigation follows a fatal accident last month where a woman in her 20s died after her SUV plunged 12 meters from the mart's rooftop.

Authorities found that the mart's representative, a man in his 50s, had illegally converted a rooftop area approved for landscaping into a parking space without following proper change-of-use procedures. While the representative had reportedly used traffic cones to restrict access and was not actively operating the space as a public parking lot, the unauthorized removal of landscaping facilities to draw parking lines constitutes a violation.

Although investigators determined there is no direct causal link between the illegal building modification and the fatal crash, they concluded that the act of arbitrarily altering approved facilities is a punishable offense under the Building Act.
