Suwon wins grand prize in Hankyoreh Regional Resilience Evaluation

The 2nd Hankyoreh Regional Resilience Evaluation has selected Suwon as the grand prize winner for its comprehensive achievements in environmental, economic, and social sectors. Suwon was recognized for solving administrative gaps, such as its ‘Veteran Team Leaders’ who handle complex civil complaints, and its school meal donation program that provides surplus food to vulnerable populations.

Six other regions were selected for specific excellence in various categories:

• Gwangmyeong: Recognized for resource circulation by improving large-scale waste processing, achieving a 100% recycling rate for certain materials. • Taebaek: Awarded for carbon neutrality by utilizing wind power dividends to fund local community welfare and energy projects. • Yeongam: Noted for expanding local trade and economic circulation. • Seongdong: Recognized for industrial management. • Dong-gu and Yecheon: Honored for improvements in caregiving and mobility services.

The evaluation focused on the practical execution of policies and the ability of local governments to collaborate with non-governmental actors to solve real-world problems, rather than just the existence of formal plans.
