Suzuki and Sompo Japan conduct first electric mobility evacuation drill in Noto
Suzuki, Suzuki Jihan Hokuriku, and Sompo Japan have conducted Japan’s first evacuation drill combining “Nige-chizu” (evacuation maps) with electric mobility to support elderly residents in Noto Town, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The initiative aims to address challenges posed by an aging population and a shortage of evacuation support personnel. Following the recovery efforts from the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, the drill focused on strengthening community disaster resilience against potential tsunami threats.
The program utilized “Nige-chizu,” a tool provided by Sompo Japan that visualizes evacuation routes and time requirements through color-coded maps, alongside electric mobility devices including the RT. 3 electric walking assist and the Senia car electric wheelchair. The training included a workshop to create evacuation maps and practical drills to experience moving to designated shelters using the mobility devices.
