Suzuki and Toyota unveil compact urban vehicles with novel designs
Suzuki unveiled the concept S‑RIDE at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show, a lightweight two‑seater sports car that combines scooter agility with car practicality. The vehicle features a tandem seating arrangement, a narrow 660 cc mid‑mounted engine, CVT transmission and a canopy roof, aiming to navigate congested city streets while offering the stability of four wheels. Although the S‑RIDE never entered mass production, its design anticipated modern micro‑mobility trends.
Toyota highlighted the latest generation of the Sienta, a compact 7‑seat MPV measuring just over 4.2 m in length. The model incorporates sliding doors, a rounded‑square body silhouette, and offers both a 1.5‑L gasoline engine and a hybrid powertrain paired with CVT. Safety is emphasized through Toyota Safety Sense, including Proactive Driving Assist and Radar Cruise Control, while interior flexibility targets families and outdoor‑activity users. Prices range from roughly ¥20.8 million to ¥33.2 million.
