Suzuki marks 50 years of operations in Italy
Suzuki is approaching its 50th anniversary in Italy, with its official subsidiary, Suzuki Italia, established on June 23, 1976. The brand's presence in the country dates back to 1970, when SAIAD (Suzuki Articles Import And Distribution) began importing motorcycles.
Throughout its history in Italy, Suzuki has expanded from motorcycles to include automobiles and marine engines. Key milestones include motorcycle world championships in the early 1980s by riders such as Lucchinelli and Uncini, and the 1982 introduction of Suzuki cars, notably the Samurai, which earned the nickname ‘Suzukino’ among Italian consumers.
The company has maintained a significant presence through various eras, including the introduction of iconic models like the Katana, Hayabusa, and Jimny. In 2009, Suzuki opened its only European Design Center in Italy. Looking toward the future, the brand plans to debut the VITARA, its first 100% electric model, in 2025.
