Suzuki's Hansalpur Plant D Begins Production, Raising Capacity to 1 Million Vehicles Annually

On 30 July 2024 Suzuki's Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Limited started vehicle production at the newly built Plant D in the Hansalpur complex, Gujarat. The fourth facility adds an annual capacity of 250 000 units and will manufacture the fully electric SUV e‑Vitara (also referred to as e‑Bitara).

The new line brings the total output of the Hansalpur site to 1 million vehicles per year – the first time a single Suzuki plant has reached that level. Combined with Suzuki’s other Indian factories, the company's national production capacity now stands at 2.9 million vehicles annually, with a target of 4 million by the 2030s.

Suzuki also signed a basic agreement with the Gujarat government in January 2024 to build a second plant in Sanand, slated to start operations by 2029 with an initial 250 000‑unit capacity. These moves are part of Suzuki’s broader strategy to expand electric‑vehicle production and overall manufacturing presence in India.
