Suzuki to launch e SKY electric mini-car in Japan
Suzuki is set to launch its first fully electric mini-car, the e SKY, in the Japanese market on November 16. Priced at approximately 2.12 million yen (around 12,015 euros or 13,500 USD), the vehicle aims to compete directly with Chinese rival BYD in the electric kei-car segment.
To maintain cost efficiency, Suzuki has developed its own dedicated electric platform but utilizes Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by a subsidiary of BYD. The e SKY offers a WLTC-rated range of up to 310 kilometers, outperforming the base BYD Racco 200, which provides a 210-kilometer range at a slightly higher starting price.
The e SKY measures approximately 3.4 meters in length and is designed to maximize interior space despite its compact dimensions. It features a design aesthetic that references Suzuki’s 1955 Suzulight, combining elements of a minivan and an SUV with LED headlights and aerodynamic body panels.
