SV Elversberg coach Vincent Wagner cleared of suspension
The German Football Association (DFB) sports court has overturned a suspension for SV Elversberg coach Vincent Wagner, allowing him to manage his team during their upcoming match against FC Bayern München.
The decision follows an admission of error by referee Martin Petersen. During a Bundesliga match against Mönchengladbach, Petersen issued a yellow-red card to Wagner for entering the pitch during the halftime interval. In a subsequent oral hearing, Petersen stated that he had misinterpreted the situation and that his reaction was inappropriate.
Presiding official Stephan Oberholz noted that new video evidence supported the conclusion that Wagner entered the field solely to communicate with his players and did not direct any behavior toward the referee. Oberholz emphasized that lifting the automatic suspension is an “absolute exception” made possible by the referee's honesty regarding the mistake.
