SV Hemelingen faces financial strain after stadium vandalism

Fifth-division football club SV Hemelingen is facing significant financial hardship following acts of vandalism at the Weserstadion. The damage occurred in the guest area after a DFB-Pokal match against Hannover 96, which ended in a 9-1 victory for the second-division side.

Reports indicate that unknown individuals caused extensive destruction to sanitary facilities, including broken ceramics, defaced walls and mirrors, and flooded toilets. As the host club for the match, SV Hemelingen is responsible for the repair costs, which are estimated at 4,500 euros.

The club has launched a donation campaign to cover these expenses, stating they cannot bear the costs of the vandalism alone. While the club noted that the majority of Hannover 96 fans are not responsible, they expressed sadness over the behavior of those who used the match as a cover for violence and destruction.
