SV Waldhof Mannheim faces heavy fines and spectator bans
SV Waldhof Mannheim has been issued a 100,000 euro fine by the DFB sports court following violent incidents during a DFB-Pokal match against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on August 21. In addition to the fine, the club faces a partial spectator ban that will leave the Otto-Siffling-Tribüne empty during their upcoming match against TSG Hoffenheim II. This restriction, which limits attendance to season ticket holders only, is estimated to cost the club between 55,000 and 65,000 euros in lost revenue.
The club is facing significant financial pressure due to repeated disciplinary actions. Since 2020, Waldhof Mannheim has paid nearly one million euros in fines to the DFB, the highest amount for any third-division club in that period. These costs are being offset by president Bernd Beetz, who provided approximately six million euros in the 2024/25 season to cover deficits.
Politically, AfD city council member Markus Rieger has used the security issues at the Carl-Benz-Stadion to criticize current management, calling for increased security measures and the criminalization of certain fan behaviors following the use of pyrotechnics and vandalism during the derby.
