Sverdlovsk region freight train derailment causes tank car fire

A freight train derailed in Russia's Sverdlovsk region near Yekaterinburg, causing seven tank cars to catch fire. The incident occurred around 01:30 local time on the Resheti–Aramil line between Makartsevo and Sedelnikovo.

Emergency responders, including 106 personnel and 31 units of equipment, worked to contain the blaze, which covered an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. Authorities successfully detached the burning cars from the rest of the train, and a recovery train moved 54 unaffected wagons to a safe distance.

No injuries have been reported. While the derailment obstructed an adjacent track and suspended rail traffic on that section, Sverdlovsk Railway stated that passenger services were not affected as they do not operate on this specific line. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment and the subsequent fire. Rospotrebnadzor will also monitor air quality in nearby residential areas due to the fire.
