Sverigedemokraterna remains most powerful on social media

The Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden Democrats) have maintained their position as the most powerful entity on social media for the third consecutive year, according to the annual Maktbarometern report released by Medieakademin. The study mapped reach across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X.

Following the political party, SVT and Aftonbladet ranked second and third, respectively. The report notes that while right-wing politics continues to dominate, there has been a slight trend shift with some left-wing commentators and think tanks seeing increased engagement. Additionally, the gap between traditional media houses and new media power is narrowing, and there is a rising presence of AI-generated content from anonymous actors on these platforms.
