Sveriges Allmännytta forms council for social housing sustainability

Sveriges Allmännytta has convened a Council for Social Sustainability, composed of CEOs from ten different public housing companies across Sweden. The council aims to address critical social issues within residential areas, including overcrowding, crime prevention, domestic violence, and illegal subletting.

Council Chairman Chris Österlund emphasizes that social sustainability must be an integrated part of professional property management rather than a separate project. The initiative focuses on creating security, community, and stability through careful renovations and increased tenant participation, which in turn helps reduce vandalism and improve neighborhood attractiveness.

The council serves to collect and share practical experiences and effective working methods from both large and small housing companies. This knowledge is disseminated to member companies through advisory services, training, reports, and guidance, while also informing Sveriges Allmännytta’s official positions and advocacy work.
