Sveti Križ Začretje house fire destroys family home

A major house fire broke out in the Dukovec settlement of Sveti Križ Začretje around 2:30 AM on Saturday. The blaze originated in the attic of a family home, destroying the roof and the entire upper portion of the structure.

A mother, Vlasta Prelčec, managed to wake her children and evacuate the building after sensing smoke. Firefighters from the Sveti Križ Začretje Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, localizing the fire by 5:00 AM and fully extinguishing it by approximately 6:15 AM. No injuries were reported, though one child reported feeling heat on his hand during the escape.

This incident marks the third fire to affect this specific family within six years. While the exact cause is subject to official investigation, firefighters noted that fires in attics during this season are frequently linked to faulty electrical installations. The family is currently without housing and is seeking assistance.
