Svetlana Alexievich to join literary residency in Cascais

Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich will participate in the International Writing Residency Program of the Fundação Dom Luís I in Cascais, Portugal. The residency is scheduled to take place from October 1 to October 22.

Alexievich will be accompanied by her literary assistant, Tatyana Loznitsa. The program is organized by the Fundação Dom Luís I in collaboration with the Cascais Municipal Council and is coordinated by writer and literary critic Filipa Melo.

The residency program, which operates exclusively by invitation, provides authors with accommodation and a creative space in Cascais for one to two months. Organizers noted that Alexievich’s presence is particularly significant as Cascais serves as the European Capital of Democracy for 2026, highlighting her work in documenting individual testimonies and voices often silenced by propaganda and violence.
