Sveva Gerevini pursues Italian heptathlon record in Birmingham

Italian heptathlete Sveva Gerevini remains in contention for a new national record following the first day of competition at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Gerevini showed strong performance in the early stages, recording a time of 13.16 seconds in the 100m hurdles, which improved her previous personal best by 0.19 seconds. She also recorded a high jump of 1.74 meters. Despite a slight dip in performance during the shot put, where she placed 20th with a throw of 12.89 meters, she recovered with a solid 200m sprint of 23.78 seconds.

At the conclusion of the first day, Gerevini sits in ninth place with 3,725 points. This total keeps her on track to challenge her recent Italian record, as she currently holds a 9-point advantage relative to the required pace. The competition continues with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800 meters. Polish athlete Adrianna Sulek-Schubert currently leads the standings with 3,968 points.
