Svishtov hosts inaugural sport fishing tournament on the Danube
The Svishtov-Tsenovo Local Initiative Fishing Group (MIRG) organized its first sport fishing tournament along the banks of the Danube River near Svishtov. The event drew 102 participants from across Bulgaria.
Young anglers achieved significant success in the competition. Twelve-year-old Todor Todorov secured first place with a catch of 63 fish. Seven-year-old Martin Hristov took second place, and eleven-year-old Boris Petrov finished third. Stefan Mukhtarov received the award for the heaviest catch.
The tournament utilized a ‘catch and release’ principle to emphasize the conservation of fish resources, ensuring all caught fish were returned alive to the Danube. Organizers stated the goal was to promote fishing across generations, encourage environmental responsibility, and strengthen community ties between Svishtov and Tsenovo.
