Svishtov water treatment plant project cancelled

The planned construction of a drinking water treatment plant in Svishtov has been cancelled, according to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The decision follows a change in investment intentions by the water operator, ViK Yovkovtsi.

Originally, the facility was proposed to address excessive manganese levels in the Vardim water supply system. However, two problematic wells, identified as Ranei 3 and 4, have since been taken out of operation. Because these wells are no longer included in the latest water abstraction permit, the necessity for the treatment plant has diminished, leading to its removal from the funding application under the Environment Programme 2021–2027.
