SVP petitions against 15‑million‑franc mega‑mosque in St. Gallen

The Swiss People’s Party (SVP) in St. Gallen launched a petition demanding full transparency over the financing of a planned 15‑million‑franc mosque complex proposed by the El‑Hidaje Islamic‑Albanian community. The project, still without a formal building application, would cover about 1,000 m², feature a glass dome and other facilities, and accommodate 300‑400 worshippers.

SVP politicians, including cantonal councilor Donat Kuratli, warned that the development should not proceed without scrutiny of foreign funding sources and compliance with Swiss building law. They urged the city council and cantonal government to prioritize local residents’ interests, noting doubts that the entire cost could be covered by domestic donations alone.
