SVT Görlitz historical train completes special trip to Sylt
The SVT Görlitz, a restored high-speed railcar from the former East Germany, has completed a special excursion from Dresden to the North Sea island of Sylt. Originally manufactured in 1968 in Görlitz, the train was once a prestige vehicle for the Deutsche Reichsbahn, capable of speeds up to 160 kilometers per hour and used for international long-distance travel.
The restoration project, led by the non-profit SVT Görlitz GmbH, took over five years and cost approximately seven million euros. The special trip departed Dresden on Friday, traveled through Hamburg, and arrived in Westerland on Saturday. The excursion included themed catering provided by SVT-Mitropa to evoke the era of the train's original service.
Following the successful journey to the North Sea, organizers have already planned a subsequent special trip to the Baltic Sea coast near Usedom for mid-November.
