Svět obrů amusement park fined in Czech Republic

The Czech Environmental Inspectorate (ČIŽP) has issued a 490,000 CZK fine to the operator of the Svět obrů amusement park in Chlum u Třeboně. This penalty follows a previous 450,000 CZK fine for the same offense: failing to provide required documentation during an inspection regarding waste management.

The inspection was initiated in July following reports from local authorities. The Mayor of Chlum u Třeboně, Jitka Bednářová, has alleged that the operator has engaged in illegal waste disposal by burying trash in pits within the castle park and has performed unauthorized tree cutting. Additionally, the Třebon building authority stated in October that the attraction is operating without necessary permits and must cease activities.

Pavel Žufan, representing the park operator, has contested the actions of the authorities. He stated that the company aims to restore the historical site rather than destroy it and is seeking a fair and proportionate approach that considers the condition of the historical building. The ČIŽP noted that because the required documents have not been submitted, the full scope of the inspection could not be completed, and further sanctions may follow if the company remains uncooperative.
