Swansea City close to signing Scotland striker Ross Stewart on a free transfer

Swansea City are in advanced talks to bring Scotland international striker Ross Stewart to the club on a free transfer after his contract with Southampton expired on 30 June. Sporting director Ben Stevens told a fans’ forum that a deal is "close" and head coach Vitor Matos said the signing would add quality the squad currently lacks. Stewart, 30, has four caps for Scotland, was part of the World Cup squad, and scored eight goals in just 11 Championship starts last season, prompting interest from several clubs.

The club also confirmed that a player passed a medical on Wednesday, fueling speculation that Stewart’s move is imminent. Matos reiterated his preference for permanent signings over loan deals, citing the recent loan of left‑back Tiago Parente as an example of a player with an option to buy.
