Swansea Council increases summer holiday funding to nearly £700,000

Swansea Council has distributed nearly £700,000 in summer holiday funding to more than 300 community groups across the city. This represents a significant increase from the £400,000 allocated last summer.

The funding supports various initiatives, including 67 projects that provide food for school-aged children to offset the loss of free school meals during the six-week break. Additionally, 120 projects receive support for free or low-cost activities.

At the Phoenix Centre, a recipient of the funding, children participate in activities such as communal breakfasts, mile-long walks, and dodgeball. Councillor Rebecca Fogarty, the council’s cabinet member for community support, visited the centre to observe the impact of the program, noting that the funding helps alleviate financial pressure on families during the holidays.
