Swansea restores historic Laboratory Building at Hafod‑Morfa Copperworks

Work on the grade‑II listed Laboratory Building at the Hafod‑Morfa Copperworks in Swansea has entered a new phase, with new floors being installed and a Welsh slate roof planned. The restoration, led by John Weaver Contractors and overseen by Swansea Council, began in late 2024 and is funded in part by the UK Government’s Local Regeneration Fund.

The project is part of the council’s Lower Swansea Valley regeneration programme, which also includes the nearby Pendryn whisky distillery and the restoration of historic engine houses. Council leader Rob Stewart said the building could become a restaurant for over 100 diners and that a tenant search will begin soon, with completion expected later this year.
