Swappie expands into refurbished MacBook market in Belgium
Finnish company Swappie is expanding its product range by launching refurbished MacBooks in Belgium on August 31. After a decade focused primarily on refurbished iPhones, the company is moving into the laptop market to meet growing consumer demand for controlled, high-quality reused technology.
Swappie's research indicates that the Belgian market is increasingly receptive to refurbished goods. Approximately 45 percent of Belgians now view refurbished devices as a legitimate alternative to new ones, with 41 percent choosing them more frequently than in the past. Financial considerations are a primary driver, with 49 percent of respondents citing cost as a more significant motivation than sustainability, amid rising prices for new consumer electronics.
To differentiate itself from standard second-hand platforms, Swappie utilizes its own refurbishment processes, strict quality standards, and warranties. While European ‘Right to Repair’ regulations may support the sector, the company notes that challenges remain, particularly regarding access to original spare parts and technical information.
