Swarmer to acquire Ukrainian UGV maker Ratel Robotics

Swarmer Inc., an Austin-based technology company, has signed an agreement to acquire Ratel Robotics, a Ukrainian manufacturer of uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs), for up to $224 million. The acquisition aims to combine Swarmer’s autonomy software with Ratel’s battle-tested hardware to create interoperable autonomous solutions.

Ukraine has been increasingly integrating unmanned ground vehicles into its military strategy to mitigate risks in drone-dominated environments. These robotic systems are being utilized for logistics, evacuation, and assault tasks. The deployment of such technology has influenced market perceptions regarding the conflict; for instance, the perceived likelihood of Russian forces entering Mykolaivka by October 2026 has recently decreased, reflecting an improved defensive posture through robotic adaptation.
