Swedavia airports see 2% passenger growth in September
Swedavia reported a 2% increase in total passenger traffic across its ten Swedish airports in September, with nearly 3.2 million travelers passing through. This growth was primarily fueled by a 3% rise in international travel, particularly on European routes.
In contrast, domestic travel saw a slight decline of nearly 1%. While demand remained relatively stable, the supply of domestic flights decreased at a faster rate than demand, leading to higher load factors but fewer available departures. Stockholm Arlanda, the nation's largest airport, saw a 2% overall increase, though domestic travel there fell by nearly 5%.
Göteborg Landvetter Airport reported stable passenger numbers compared to the previous year, with a 1% increase in international travelers offset by an 8% drop in domestic passengers. Visby Airport saw the highest percentage growth, increasing by nearly 12% due to domestic demand.
Swedavia noted increasing uncertainty heading into the winter season, citing rising oil prices and higher cost levels as potential risks to both market demand and capacity.
