Sweden addresses energy sector workforce and planning
Sweden is focusing on addressing challenges within its energy sector, specifically regarding workforce shortages and regulatory planning. Kraftringen, a regional energy company in southern Sweden, is launching initiatives to attract young people to energy careers. To combat skill shortages and upcoming retirements, the company is engaging students through competitions like ‘Spänningssökarna’, internships, and trainee programs.
Simultaneously, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR) has responded to government proposals for stricter energy planning and efficiency requirements for municipalities and regions. While SKR supports the goal of increasing electricity access and strengthening the energy system, it warns against excessive bureaucracy. The association argues that new requirements for detailed mapping and environmental assessments should not divert resources away from the actual work of electrification and energy transition.
