Sweden allocates significant research funding for health and welfare
The Swedish agency Forte has granted 600 million SEK to support research focused on health, working life, and welfare. This funding includes 345 million SEK for 71 research projects addressing societal issues such as mental health in children and young people, organized crime, gang violence, and the evolving needs of the healthcare and welfare systems.
Additional allocations include 104 million SEK to support early-career researchers in developing their own projects, and 149 million SEK for practice-oriented mental health research conducted in collaboration with the public sector or civil society.
Separately, the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) has distributed approximately 50.1 million SEK to 11 researchers at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH). These grants focus on medical advancements, including precision medicine for primary sclerosing cholangitis, cardiometabolic monitoring, tuberculosis immunotherapy, and studies on congenital immune deficiencies.
