Sweden loses to Hungary in U20 Handball European Championship final

Sweden entered the U20 Handball European Championship final as favorites after eliminating France and Denmark, and beating Hungary 40‑24 in the main round. The final was held at the BT Arena in Cluj‑Napoca, Romania.

Hungary claimed its first U20 title by winning 34‑32 in overtime. Sweden’s top scorer Måns Fredriksson netted nine goals, while goalkeeper Viggo Håkansson recorded key saves throughout the tournament and received messages of support from former star Andreas Palicka. Hungary’s leading scorer was Marko Eklemovic with 44 goals, and the team’s playmaker Mate Fazekas was highlighted as a decisive opponent.

Swedish coach emphasized the collective strength of the squad, but the narrow loss ended Sweden’s quest for a first U20 championship.
