Sweden and Poland reach speedway agreement to secure international riders

Sweden and Poland have reached a three-year agreement to stabilize the speedway landscape and ensure the availability of international stars in the Bauhaus-Ligan. The deal follows concerns that new regulations in Poland, which aim to limit riders to only one additional foreign league, could have caused a talent drain from Swedish tracks.

Under the new terms, riders competing in Polish leagues will be permitted to participate in the Swedish league even if they are already competing in one other foreign league. This allows for combinations such as Poland-Sweden-United Kingdom or Poland-Sweden-Denmark, though simultaneous participation in both the British and Danish leagues remains prohibited.

To address domestic development, Sweden will implement new roster requirements. Starting in 2027, every team in the Bauhaus-Ligan must include at least two U21 riders, with a minimum of one holding a Swedish license. Krister Gardell, SVEMO’s director of track racing, noted that the agreement is a vital step for the sport.
