Sweden beats Tunisia 5-1 at World Cup, Ayari nets two goals

Sweden defeated Tunisia 5-1 in the Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Monterrey, Mexico. Yasin Ayari opened the scoring in the 7th minute and added a second in stoppage time. Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres and Mattias Svanberg each contributed a goal for Sweden, while Omar Rekik scored Tunisia’s sole reply before halftime.

Ayari, the 22‑year‑old Swedish midfielder, was born in Stockholm to North‑African parents and was eligible for Morocco or Tunisia. He chose to represent Sweden after his father persuaded him, a decision he later reflected on after his double in the tournament. The midfielder, who plays for Brighton in the Premier League, has seen his market value rise to €35 million following the performance.

Sweden’s dominant display placed them top of the group, while Tunisia struggled to create chances against the tactically flexible side coached by Graham Potter.
