Sweden Democrats advocate for increased domestic food production

The Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) are advocating for increased domestic food production to enhance national security and welfare. They argue that a stable and well-developed food production system is a critical preparedness issue in the event of war or other crises.

Since joining the EU in 1995, Sweden has seen a decrease in food production despite a population increase of over 1.5 million people. The party aims to reverse the declining self-sufficiency rates for staples such as meat, milk, and potatoes.

Proposed measures to support the industry include lowering diesel taxes for agriculture, reducing regulatory burdens for farmers, and requiring the public sector to purchase Swedish raw materials. The party also suggests expanding national support financing for the agricultural sector to improve profitability and encourage expansion.
