Sweden Democrats dispute claims by former minister Ann Linde

Political tensions are rising in Sweden following controversial statements by former Foreign Minister Ann Linde regarding the Sweden Democrats (SD). During a Q&A session for high school students in Eskilstuna, Linde claimed that the Sweden Democrats advocate for all non-ethnic Swedes to leave the country, arguing that such policies threaten national security and social inclusion.

Jimmie Åkesson, leader of the Sweden Democrats, has strongly rejected these claims, calling them “outright lies” and accusing the Social Democrats of spreading misinformation to students. He demanded a response from Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson.

Separately, political analysts are observing significant shifts in voter mobilization. Data indicates a substantial increase in early voting within areas with high immigrant populations. In “particularly vulnerable areas,” early voting has risen by 93 percent compared to the 2022 election, significantly outpacing the national increase of 39 percent. Some observers suggest this mobilization of voters with non-European backgrounds could impact the electoral standing of the Sweden Democrats and the current Tidö government coalition.
