Sweden driver's license revocations increase in early 2026

The Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) reported a 5 percent increase in driver's license revocations during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. A total of 21,966 licenses were revoked.

The most frequent cause for revocation was categorized as a “significant violation,” which typically includes speeding, running red lights, or failing to maintain a safe following distance. This specific category accounted for 11,233 revocations, marking a 3.7 percent increase.

Benny Carlstedt-Duke, an operations specialist at the agency, stated that most revocations stem from traffic offenses and emphasized that these measures are fundamentally intended to improve road safety by reducing risks to drivers and others.
