Sweden election: Reports of ballot theft and threats

Reports from various regions in Sweden indicate several irregularities and security concerns during the current election campaign and early voting period.

In Värmland, approximately 100 incidents have been reported to the Election Authority, including theft and displacement of ballots, threats, and unauthorized propaganda. In Karlstad, election official Daniel Persson noted that 15 incidents have been reported, five of which have resulted in police reports. Torsby municipality has seen the highest number of reported incidents with 18 cases. Officials noted that while new procedures requiring ballots to be collected behind screens have increased the workload and queue times, the measures are intended to strengthen ballot secrecy.

In Jönköping, political activity continues at campaign booths despite the memory of a previous election where a politician was threatened with a knife. Local participants expressed a commitment to maintaining democratic engagement through direct interaction with voters, including students and seniors.
